Tasting notes
The organic Cordero di Montezemolo 2018 Barolo Gattera shows a generous and open personality with layers of dark fruit, spice, pressed rose and licorice. This wine is assembled from a blend of the best clusters from the higher elevations of the Gattera MGA in La Morra. The fruit selected is just enough to fill a single 50-hectoliter fermentation tank. It sees up to two weeks of skin maceration and ages in oak for 18 or 19 months. Production is 4,800 bottles.

The 2018 Barolo Gattera is another heady, expressive wine from Cordero di Montezemolo. Gravel, spice, leather and tobacco lend gravitas to this surprisingly tense Barolo. Red/purplish fruit, blood orange, pomegranate, minerals and savory notes develop with some aeration. This is very good.
La Morra. Deep lustrous ruby. Beautiful, concentrated nose of red fruit and sweet cherry with a flattering hint of oak. Fantastic depth. Intense and long with succulent acidity and bags of coating tannins. Very long and exciting. A little more marked by new oak compared with the Monfalletto, but skilfully done. (WS)
