2021 Breton Cabernet Franc

The 2021 Breton is the Cabernet Franc cuvée sourced from two farmers that Loggerenberg has worked with since the beginning in Polkedraai and Klein Welnoed, the former 100% whole bunch and the latter de-stemmed. Aged in used 500-litre oak barrels, like previous vintages, it expresses the variety succinctly, obtaining a Loire-like pepperiness (partly due to the stem addition). The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a dash of white pepper and a touch of lavender, very long and tender with a surfeit of freshness from start to finish. Wonderful. (NM)
