Tasting notes
From one of the greatest vineyards in the Côte d’Or, Tortochot’s Lavaux-Saint-Jacques is always impressive. The vines’ proximity to the neighbouring Clos Saint-Jacques no doubt helps in this respect. In 2021, it is weighty and serious, yet with a sweet lift and charming delicacy. The tannins are super-fine, but there’s a classically Gevrey firmness to the fruit if not the structure. Full of pure dark-cherry fruit, there’s a savoury intensity here, with a saline freshness that fills the finish.

Cask sample. A bit more spindly and lean than the Morey Aux Charmes Premier Cru, oddly. Rather dry on the finish. Could come right in the end …? (JR)
About the producer

Situated in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Tortochot may not carry the cachet of the very top domaines in the village, but it does offer some of the best value, producing wines with great terroir transparency in their top Premiers and Grands Crus, and fabulous village wines.
