Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2025, Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020
A mix of dark ripe fruits, cherries, strawberry, plum, rich brown spice, moist soil and savory overtones give the 2001 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru remarkable aromatic depth. On the palate, the 2001 is soft and enveloping, with a nervy citrus/mineral edge driving the dark fruit. The finish is long, with residual acids and inner floral tones that linger.

About the producer

Domaine Robert Ampeau
The epitome of old-school Burgundy, the Meursault-based Domaine Robert Ampeau crafts traditional wines, both red and white. Today run by Michel Ampeau, the property’s wines are – unlike most producers today – only released when they are ready to drink, often with 20-plus years in bottle.
