2019 Volnay Champans

The 2019 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru has a high-toned, concentrated bouquet, with dark chocolate-infused red fruit, ample oak and just a hint of espresso coming through with time. The palate is supple in texture, fleshy, rounded and lower in acidity. This is harmonious, yet it does not deliver the complexity and terroir expression of some of its peers, especially on the chocolaty finish. This Volnay is actually drinking well now, but I wonder whether it will develop into something more interesting with bottle age. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
