Tasting notes
The 2014 Caiarossa was being held back for a late release because the winemaking team thought it would benefit from more time in bottle. The wine is indeed closed and less expressive, with budding notes of black cherry, spice, tar and tilled earth that rise to the top. Just give the wine a few extra vigorous swirls in the glass in order to coax it along.

Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in In barriques and tonneaux for about 14 months while using 15% of new oak, followed by six months in concrete tanks before bottling. Dark ruby. A finer, more concentrated version of Pergolaia of the same year. Succulent red and dark fruit with polished, bitter-sweet tannins. A sophisticated wine made in a very difficult vintage. Completely ready now but will hold. (WS)
Viognier and Chardonnay. Porridge, garden herbs and white fruit nose and a hint of oak. Fresh and appetising and with a savoury creamy lemon finish. Very distinct, if not at all varietally defined. (WS)
