Tasting notes
From old vines on a slope with a western exposition, the 2020 Burg Layer Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett is very clear on the reductive nose that is reminiscent of weathered slate. Juicy, piquant and spicy on the palate, this is a sustainable, salty and sharp Riesling that gets its precision and piquancy through the low pH level. Needs time. To be auctioned in November this year. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.

Nahe auction wine, 13 November 2021. Some like their Kabinett sweet, others refreshing. The Schlossberg from Caroline Diehl takes the gentle approach. The fragrance does not deny its spontaneous roots, but reflects them in a delightfully fresh herbal way. Green sappy herbs also feature on the palate, soothing acidity relaxes the taste buds but keeps them alert enough to enjoy a subtle salty minerality on the finish. (MS)
