Poured from a half-bottle. Some definite development on the nose and some chalky dustiness on the palate. Lots to chew on! Long but still quite youthful on the palate, in contrast to the impression given on the nose . (JR)

The 2019 Estate Pinot Noir Scallop Shelf has a medium ruby-purple color and aromas of blueberries, dried cranberries, tar, graphite and tobacco leave, plus tones of forest floor and pepper coming through as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is intense and powerful, with loads of powdery tannins and layer after layer of spice, bitters and berry fruit refreshed by bright acidity, and it finishes long and nuanced. It's youthfully tense and will benefit from at least another 2-3 years in bottle.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Estate Scallop Shelf is a nervy, tense wine that is going to need a number of years to come into its own. This is an especially savory, mineral Pinot, with the fruit moved more into the background. Lavender, rose petal, mint, sage and crushed rocks linger in this vivid, exceptionally polished Pinot Noir from the Peay family.
