(from a cask earmarked for Monfortino, but Conterno had not yet made the final decision): Moderately saturated medium red. Cherry liqueur, flowers and medicinal herbs (Benedictine?) on the nose. Pungent minerality gives outstanding lift to the floral and spicy flavors. Quite pristine on the very long, mounting finish, which displays terrific tannic grip. Monfortino has been made every year since 1997 with the exception of 2003 and 2007.

About the producer

Giacomo Conterno
Giacomo Conterno is arguably Barolo’s most celebrated estate. While most famous for its Monfortino Riserva, the quality found in every bottling of Nebbiolo and Barbera at this address makes them a benchmark producer for both varieties.
