D'Arenberg's 2017 The Stump Jump Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre is a blend of 46% Grenache, 42% Shiraz and just 12% Mourvèdre. Almost-sweet-tasting cherry fruit leads the way on the nose, accented by hints of licorice, tree bark and truffle, while the medium to full-bodied palate is supple and ripe, with very little tannin evident on the finish. Drink it over the next couple of years.

The black fruit isn't exactly jammy, but it does have a crudeness to it, leaving a burnt note on the finish. Soft and supple with acid that is well adjusted – high but not sticky-outy. A decent glugger. (RH)
