Tasting notes
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gain 1er Cru veers much more toward an austere style of Puligny. The aromatics will appeal to those who prefer more Zen-like aromas, touches of petrichor and damp, loamy soil. Returning after 15 minutes, I appreciate its nuances more. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. The oak is deftly used here, lending a sensorially satisfying texture without occluding the terroir expression. It feels reassuringly persistent on the finish. Promising. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Mid lemon yellow. This is slightly more perfumed than its neighbour on the nose, and with a striking liveliness on the palate, an excellent balance, a very light menthol here, this will be an excellent Champgains. Tasted: November 2021
