Tasting notes
Saturated garnet. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of ripe red berries, lavender pastille, pipe tobacco and vanilla on the intensely perfumed nose. Gently chewy and focused on the palate, offering juicy blackberry, bitter cherry and licorice flavors that show strong, spicy lift and a hint of succulent herbs. Turns sweeter on the persistent, gently tannic finish, which echoes the floral and tobacco notes. I really like the blend of traditional and modern touches that this wine conveys.

100% Tempranillo from >70-year-old bush vines at 850 m elevation. Soils are of loam and clay with some calcareous layers in the subsoil. Hand-picked grapes selected using a sorting table before vatting in 500-litre French casks to ferment. Malolactic fermentation and a subsequent 24 months’ ageing in French oak barrels of 225 litres. Tasted blind. Clean, pure, attractive aroma. Herbal and fresh red and black fruits. The wine is full of savoury fruit. Intense, broad, with sufficient concentration and depth. Well made, full, consistent. You can taste the good quality of the fruit. A brilliant fleshy wine! (FC)
