Score 90/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020
The very first old-vines selection of this spectacular cru is the 1988 Riesling Zöbinger Ried Heiligenstein Kabinett, which has 11.6% alcohol. Clear, bright and fresh on the pure and floral nose, this is a dense and compactly structured, pretty grippy and rather rustic and leaner-styled Riesling than today. It is also less concentrated than today but ageless. "At that time, we most probably picked earlier than in 1994 or 1997," commented Willi Bründlmayer during our tasting in September 2019.
