Score 87/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2016 Le Moulin has a respectable if backward bouquet of tightly wound black cherries, boysenberry jam and a hint of fig that develops with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin and good acidity. Perhaps missing some finesse toward the finish, but it should meliorate with a couple of years in bottle.

The 2016 Le Moulin is supple and fruity, both of which give the wine much of its immediacy and overall appeal. Silky and plush on the palate, the 2016 has much to offer. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, menthol, spice and new leather all fill out the wine's ample, creamy frame. The 2016 is not especially complex, but it is elegant and impeccably balanced. Alain Raynaud consults.

The 2016 Le Moulin is plump, juicy and delicious, but not especially complex or exciting. Don't get me wrong – this is a gorgeous wine by any measure. At the same time, it’s quite evident that there is considerable untapped potential. A rush of intense, super-ripe dark fruit, cherry jam, wildflowers and spice leads into the unctuous, full-bodied finish.

The 2016 Le Moulin has a plush and extravagant bouquet with crème de cassis and blueberry scents. The palate is sweet and chewy on the entry with plenty of black and blue fruit, yet it feels rather monotone compared to its peers and misses some tension on the finish. This is trying too hard in a vintage where there was no need.
