Tasting notes
The full-bodied 2001 Merlot Three Palms Vineyard’s opaque ruby/purple hue is followed by a stunning bouquet of sweet kirsch, plum liqueur, blueberries, spring flowers and roasted coffee. Revealing superb richness, impressive purity and a multidimensional mouthfeel, this stunning Merlot can be enjoyed over the next 10-15+ years. With nine separate offerings, all performing exceptionally well, Duckhorn Vineyards must be thrilled with the evolution of their 2001s. This is a terrific performance for these Duckhorn wines with most of them showing better than they did upon release – always a great sign. (RP)

Full bright ruby. Sappy, oaky aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, mocha and dark chocolate. Sweet and pliant, with flavors similar to the aromas. Offers good texture and solid underlying backbone, with just a bit of the vintage's greenness lurking. Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins, some tarry oak and moderate length.
The 2000 Merlot Three Palm Vineyards, a popular offering for Merlot lovers, boasts a deeply pigmented ruby/purple color in addition to a big, sweet nose of black fruits, mocha, cocoa, and new oak followed by seamless, medium-bodied flavors with very good concentration. There are no hard edges in this spicy, richly fruity Merlot, but the finish is a bit short. Drink it over the next 5-7 years Tel. (707) 963-7108
