Tasting notes
Full bottle 1,199 g. Verduno. On its 125th anniversary now in 2022, Einaudi comes out with its maiden vintage of Monvigliero, a 1.5-hectare plot acquired in 2018 and just released. Barely mid ruby and nobly pale. Quite ripe nose with a suggestion of dried fruit and just an idea of tar. It is undeniably attractive but at the same time seems already a little sped-up in its evolution. Rose hip, cherry and a hint of oak and wet, dark earth. Supple red fruit with soft, grainy tannins becoming more prominent on the finish. A bit simple, it must be said, but this is the first try so probably much more to come in the future. (WS)

The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is a fabulous wine, especially for a first release and in this tricky vintage. Intensely aromatic, lifted and ethereal, with striking complexity, the 2018 captures all of the essential signatures of this great Verduno site. Silky tannins give this weightless, wonderfully translucent Barolo a real feeling of finesse.
Pale ruby. Rather disconcerting note of coconut on the nose. Broad, ripe fruit with some real dryness on the end. Very youthful. (JR)
