The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a gorgeous, perfumed and detailed bouquet with mineral-infused red berry fruit, subtle sous-bois notes, a little graphite and sage. Wonderful. The palate is brimming over with nascent energy thanks to its razor-sharp acidity that cuts through the layers of red berry fruit laced with white pepper and clove on the finish. This is an outstanding Echézeaux, one of the finest in 2019, one that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure.

Cask sample. Just a little too dry and stringy on the end for perfection. There is more fruit and balance on the Petits Vougeots. (JR)
