Tasting notes
Conterno's 2017 Barolo Ginestra is a wine of gravitas and pure power. All of the muscle of Ginestra comes through loud and clear. I am not sure the tannins will ever fully soften - this is Ginestra after all - but there is certainly plenty of depth. To be honest, today I find the Comune bottling to have better balance and more finesse.

Monforte d'Alba. Healthy mid ruby. Pretty nose of dark cherry and ripe raspberry with hints of nutmeg and just a suggestion of liquorice powder. Supple palate with near-perfect balance of ripe, soft acidity and soft, grainy tannins that stick to palate in a most entertaining way. Can be approached now, but more is to come with more bottle age. Behaves like the grand cru it is. (WS)
The 2017 Barolo Ginestra is surprisingly open and accessible, which is not a bad thing, as the Ginestra can be quite a powerhouse. Dark red cherry, red plum, orange peel, spice and cedar give this translucent expressive Barolo tons of character.
