The 2021 Lassègue has a high-toned bouquet with black cherries, bergamot and light Earl Grey scents. The oak here is present but well-integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit laced with white pepper and graphite. Quite harmonious, this is a sleek Saint-Émilion with finely pitched acidity, a delineated finish and sufficient sapidity to drag you back—a sterling effort.

Enjoyed this En Priemur and it is performing well in bottle. Medium intensity plum in colour, touch of cloves and iodine, with appealingly supple raspberry and red cherry fruit, finishing with saffran and white pepper spice. The 54th vintage in his career for winemaker Pierre Seillan (who has just handed over to his son but is still very much a big presence), and his 19th here at Lassegue. Harvest September 29 to October 14, 3.64ph. 70% new oak, no chaptilisaiton.

The 2021 Château Lassegue is impressive and has plenty of heft and richness, while still showing the finesse and elegance, as well as freshness, that are the hallmarks of the vintage. Ripe blackberries, cherries, scorched earth, and graphite define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a beautiful mid-palate, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's well worth seeking out, and I suspect I'd be a happy buyer.

This is very much focused on clarity of fruit, taut blueberry, richer raspberry puree, with waves of rose petals, saffran, iodine, smoked earth and bitter chocolate. Winemaker Pierre Seillan (who has just handed over to his son but is still very much a big presence) has been making wine at various locations since 1962, making this his 54th vintage, the 19th here at Lassegue. Harvest September 29 to October 14, 3.64ph. 70% new oak, no chaptilisaiton, no bleeding of the tanks for extra concentration.
