Tasting notes
The 2019 Saint-Aubin Murgers des Dents de Chien 1er Cru has a broad and powerful nose, though it does not fully possess the complexity of its peers in this flight and feels a bit generic, with touches of butter and caramel. The palate is balanced with a spicy, sapid entry, good depth and quite muscular for a Saint-Aubin. However, I would certainly be seeking more mineralité on the finish that, like others in this flight, seems a bit subdued vis-à-vis other recent vintages. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien wafts from the glass with aromas of peach, orange oil, nutmeg and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's layered and concentrated, with an ample core of fruit that's girdled by racy acids and chalky structuring extract. This, too, has turned out beautifully.
The 2019 Saint-Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chien 1er Cru has a more austere bouquet than the Chez Edouard; it wants to hold everything back for now (and there’s nothing wrong with that). The saline palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity and a linear, brioche-tinged finish. I am going to be prudent here; I think this needs some bottle age to prove its pedigree.
