Tasting notes
The 2019 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with red fruit, hickory and perhaps some Brettanomyces, although that element just simmers away in the background rather than completely over-riding the wine. The palate is medium-bodied, with sapid red fruit that reads a little darker than its peers and gentle grip, though it doesn't quite kick on toward a finish that dries out in the glass (probably due to some whole bunch). There’s moderate complexity here. Drink this now and over the next 5-8 years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches wafts from the glass with scents of orange rind, red berries, rose petals, sweet soil tones and preserved citrus peel. Medium to full-bodied and sumptuous but lively, it's bright and precise, with powdery tannins and a perfumed finish. This is very promising.
