The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru had the highest sugar levels in this vintage, so this was the first cuvée to be picked on 24 August. It has a very expressive nose, very pure and without any stems, it still imparts an attractive spiciness. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, nicely poised with a harmonious and mineral-driven finish. Excellent.

Cask sample. Mid to dark crimson. Rich nose with more than a hint of oak. Sweet start then a certain inkiness. Still embryonic with the tannins pretty obvious. (JR)
No stems. A significant, dense purple black colour. Lush raspberry and sun-dried cherries, the signature of the vintage. Sturdy and weighty, the tannic structure offers some relief which will help this wine come together later on in life. Some peaches in the fruit mix too. Tasted: December 2021
The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was quite reduced on the nose compared to Drouhin-Laroze’s other crus. Difficult to get a hold on the aromatics here. The palate is much more expressive with vivacious red cherry and strawberry fruit, fine acidity, orange rind threaded through its finish that leaves a tingle of spice on the aftertaste. Give this some time in bottle for the aromatics to open.
