The 2020 Clos du Tart Grand Cru delivers a lot of new oak on the nose, occluding the fruit profile and terroir. At least initially, this feels high-toned and glossy before mustering more terroir expression and mineralité with rigorous aeration. The palate is well-balanced with fine but quite sturdy tannins. Touches of licorice tincture the fruit, which is slightly baked on the finish, causing me to dock a couple of points. This is an impressive Grand Cru with swagger, though pipped to the post by a couple of others in this flight. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Clos de Tart Grand Cru is brilliant, bursting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, peonies, rose petals, sweet spices, orange rind and incense. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's elegantly muscular and multidimensional, with terrific depth at the core, ample reserves of ripe, powdery tannins and a long, resonant finish. Seamless and integrated, it was blended in the summer of 2021 before returning to barrel to complete its élevage.

The 2020 Clos de Tart Grand Cru contains around 55% whole bunch this year with 65% new oak. It has a very limpid hue in the glass. The bouquet takes time to open but my word, it is beautiful, extraordinarily pure with black cherries, crushed stone, hints of pressed violet all exquisitely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a velvety smooth texture, fine acidity, the neatly integrated. Very sleek and sensual on the finish, this is a very sophisticated and somehow "complete" Clos de Tart. Around 13,000 bottles produced.
