Score 94/100 · Drink 2025-2036, Eric Guido, Vinous, Feb 2023

Sweet spices, autumnal leaves, wild strawberries and white smoke hints make the 2019 Colore a total pleasure on the nose. This is wildly energetic and spry with tart wild berries accelerated by zesty acidity. Its fruits are crisp and pure, driven by saline minerality and exotic spices. The 2019 finishes lightly structured and buzzing with residual tension as licorice and balsamic tones slowly fade. This is a radiant beauty and nearly unrecognizable from the old, large-scale stylings of Bibi Graetz. Well done.

Pale garnet with less overt fruit than their Testamatta. Fibrous tannins with a touch of sour cherry and dark chocolate. Fine and transparent with firm structure – very traditional, very Tuscan in its bitter grippiness. (RH)

100% Sangiovese. This vintage marks the twentieth for Bibi Graetz. The nose shows an array of earthy, savoury tones including tobacco, dried leaves and tar. The palate is medium weight, bursting with sour cherry and redcurrants. The savoury complement of tobacco and tar is prominent throughout, as is the bite of tannins. Dry but balanced on the finish. This is so perfumed and seductive, with blackberries, cherries, dried flowers and perfume. Its full-bodied and tight with very fine tannins. Really structured and long. Superb tannin texture. So fine, yet so powerful. This is an incredible combination of fruit and structure. Old-vine magic. Drink after 2026.

Bibi Graetz

Based just outside Florence, Bibi Graetz is something of a maverick in the Tuscan wine scene. Working with old vineyards of indigenous grapes around Chianti, he produces intense wines classified as IGT Toscana; not fitting neatly in either the Super Tuscan or Chianti camp.
