Tasting notes
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots was showing brilliantly, soaring from the glass with aromas of plums, cherries, smoked meats, spices and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with ripe tannins, lively acids and a fleshy core of expressive fruit.

Northern side of Nuits, next to Malconsorts. One-quarter new oak (one out of four barrels) and 50% whole bunch. Barrel sample. Close to Vosne but definitely Nuits in style. A little bit reductive at the moment, dark fruited and savoury. Lots of stone dust. Dark-fruited finesse, finest of tannins. Subtle, paper-fine texture. Take your time with this – far from showy. Finishes with a hint of floral beauty. (JH)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges les Boudots 1er Cru, picked on September 8, has a superb bouquet of dark cherries mixed with raspberry preserve and damp earth and moss aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, very fine tannins and a precise, elegant finish that expresses its terroir beautifully. Superb.
