Tasted blind. Very deep greyish crimson. Sweet cassis and blackberry on the nose but less ripe on the palate. Open and inviting aroma but leads to a slightly odd flavour on the palate, rather dry and flat on the finish. (JH)

The 2020 Haut-Bergey has a fleshy, fruit-forward and opulent nose that is seemingly driven more by the growing season than the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied but rather green on the entry and slightly bitter. I wonder if some vines suffered stress and didn't quite attain phenolic maturity. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
A perfumed, exotic, complex beauty, the 2020 Château Haut-Bergey has loads of ripe black cherry and almost blue fruits as well as notes of leafy herbs, chocolate, and damp earth. This textured, medium to full-bodied, fruit-forward Pessac is well worth enjoying over the coming decade.
