The 2020 Bonalgue has an impressive deep purple, rim-staining colour. The nose is buoyant with uplifting, crushed floral aromas and sweet liquorice tones. The palate retains the florality of the nose, with additional fresh blueberry and cassis fruit flavours and a touch of iron/iodine minerality. It has lovely, sinewy tannins with a slight hint of greenness, moss and undergrowth tones that bring a rewarding freshness along with a good structural firmness on the finish.

Such a brilliant Pomerol to know about, from the same family as the fast-rising Clos du Clocher. This is a more gentle expression of the appellation, with a ton of black cherry, forest fruits, salted caramel and cocoa bean. From gravel, clay and sand soils, still young, but you could coax it out of the glass with a good few hours in a carafe, and it has the silky tannins and easy pleasure that make this such a well loved appellation.
I liked the 2020 Château Bonalgue, which has lots of classic Pomerol style in its darker red and blue fruits as well as notes of spicy oak, flowery incense, and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied and balanced, with ripe tannins, it's a beautiful wine to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years.
