Tasting notes
Made from a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc and 14% Merlot, the 2017 Cornerstone displays a dark ruby core with a lighter ruby edge. Aromas of crème de cassis, dusty plum and blackberry skin, plus elements of sage, purple flowers and juicy tobacco waft out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, this organic wine displays a balanced structure of lifting tannins before offering up elements of rosemary blossoms and black cherry skin with a persistent, dusty edge and a long, lingering and textured finish that will remain food friendly for the next decade.

The 2017 Cornerstone, matured in 30% new French oak for 18 months (the Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged in foudre ) has an opulent bouquet of lavish dark cherry, cassis, blueberry and whole bunches of freshly picked violets. It would be overwhelming if not for its entrancing purity and pixelation. The palate is medium-bodied with a finely chiseled lattice of tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and wonderful mineralité toward the finish. This is an outstanding wine from Johanne Reyneke and his team.
