Tasting notes
The restrained herbal and vegetal notes add complexity to this medium-bodied and well-structured Marsannay. Good concentration, the ripeness easily carrying the solid tannins that make the long finish firm, and suggest this has many years of life ahead of it. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Marsannay Clos du Roy was racked a couple of weeks before my visit. It has an opulent bouquet with ripe red cherries, crushed strawberry and light Indian ink aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite chewy tannins, very structured and dense, although at the moment it does not convey the same finesse as some of Pataille’s other cuvées.
2.6 ha. Iron-rich clay on degraded limestone. Racked two days ago. Cask sample. Light and sweet. Pure pleasure. Juicy par excellence! A bit reduced at the moment but there is the mineral grip well in evidence. (JR)
