Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Aug 2020

Formerly made by Henrik Möbitz from whom Christoph and Alex took the vineyards, the 2018 Spätburgunder Kanzel (from the weathered limestone soils of the more east-facing Ehrenstetter Ölberg) is beautifully pure, aromatic and spicy/vegetal on the nose that reveals concentrated cherry and blackthorn aromas yet also fascinating transparency. On the palate, this is a pure, tight and fresh, very clear, silky-textured and straightforward Pinot Noir on 1er cru level from French and German genetics. The tannins are fine, fresh and very stimulating. This is a gorgeous Pinot with a moderate 12% alcohol. It fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged in used French oak barrels for 18 months. Tasted from lot L/185 in July 2020.
