Tasting notes
The 2019 Erdener Prälat Auslese *** (White Capsule) opens almost like a cognac, with sweet oak and dry, intense, perfectly ripe and warm fruit aromas. Give the wine 24 hours and it changes to a spectacular, dense, deep and aromatic, highly refined and flinty bouquet of tropical stone fruits such as mango and papaya. On the palate, this is an enormously rich, round and concentrated, inexpressibly generous, smooth and mild Prälat with an utterly complex and intense yet refined and elegant finish that reveals very fine tannins and lingering crystalline and salty acidity. In its abundant richness and baroque finesse, the 2019 represents the unique terroir close to the Mosel River and the warmth of the vintage. The finish is spectacular in its finesse and vibrant mineral freshness. Sorry guys, it might be hard to accept this if you open the bottle now, but this is doubtlessly another 100-pointer for crazy Molitor. Just keep the wine for 10 years or so before drinking, even though it is already spectacular. Tasted in May 2021.
