The 2019 Chianti Classico Ama is very opulent on the nose, exhibiting ripe dark berries and a hint of dried herbs. Made of 96% Sangiovese and 4% Merlot, it opens to a lovely palate with very lively and youthful notes of cherries and blackberries. It has great potential and structure, with melded tannins providing a very enjoyable mouthfeel. The finish is long and persistent, proving how much this Chianti Classico is punching above its weight.

A silky, open-knit wine, the 2019 Chianti Classico Ama is wonderfully alluring from the very first taste. This gracious, aromatically expressive Chianti Classico from the estate’s young vines, will drink beautifully upon release.

This is really juicy and delicious with ripe cherries and berries, as well as some bark and dried orange. Medium to full body with round, refined tannins and a flavorful finish. Transparent and linear. Lively at the end. Excellent energy. Drink or hold.

Gaiole in Chianti. 96% Sangiovese, 4% Merlot. Vines are 10 to 12 years old. Spontaneous fermentation with a total skin-contact time of 25 days for both Sangiovese and Merlot. MLF took place in stainless steel after which the wine was blended and aged in second-use barriques for an unspecified period of time. Mid crimson. Soft fragrant cherry nose with notes of iron, tobacco leaf and a hint of oak. Tangy, light fruit palate with coating tannins. Could do with a little more fruit concentration to balance out the considerable acidity. (WS)
