The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe was very muted on the nose despite rigorous coaxing, light sea spray/oyster shell aromas eventually emerging, then turning more tertiary in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Quite peppery toward the finish, revealing touches of tobacco. A fine Au Bas de Combe that requires 3–4 years in bottle.

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe comes from the family’s 0.20-hectare parcel of 60-year-old vines. Matured in 30% new oak, it has a crisp, precise bouquet, a little backward and demanding encouragement from the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with lively spicy red and black fruit and a touch of tangerine and white pepper toward the engaging finish. Excellent.
From old vines in Bas des Combes comes the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village, a youthfully reserved wine that unwinds in the class with aromas of cassis, cherries, sweet soils tones and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-boded, layered and concentrated, with some chalky structuring tannin that should soften with another winter of élevage.
