The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux is a touch more reserved and introverted than the communal bottles that preceded it, unwinding in the glass with notes of raspberries and plums complemented by hints of warm spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, bright and powdery, with ripe tannins and lively acids, it is promising.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru, blended with 15% whole bunch, offers brambly red berry fruit on the nose, flanked by orange pith and touches of glycerin. There is a soupçon of exoticism here. The palate is well balanced with a succulent opening, offering fleshy red berry fruit laced with white pepper and sage, and fanning out gently toward the finish. Very classy and very tender. Superb.
86-year-old vines. Tank sample. Quite a light nose.But nicely balanced with a certain chalkiness of texture. Very slightly bitter on the end after an agreeable sweet start. (JR)
