I was very impressed by the tight and serious 2016 Privada Malbec, which should not be confused with the Privada Family Blend, as this Malbec costs nearly twice as much and is a selection of their best grapes from very old vines in different zones within Luján de Cuyo. This was produced with indigenous yeasts in rolling barrels, where the wine then matured for some 16 months. It's varietal, fresh, classical and perfumed, with integrated oak and a sharp palate with great freshness, the characteristic of the year. 20,000 bottles were filled in November 2017.

16 months new French oak. Good varietal typicality with bags of cool blueberry fruit, a sweet mid palate and fine tannins. The tannins are a touch drying at the moment, yet there is wonderful fruit concentration. In time this will resolve beautifully. (AC)
