Tasting notes
Beginning with a nose that is softly herbal and subtly spiced, the 2017 Hemel en Aarde Valley Pinotage offers up notions of forest floor and truffle with tart red fruits of cranberry and black cherry. Medium-bodied, the wine is balanced and delightfully complex and will remain food-friendly past its 10th birthday. It ends with a spicy, lingering finish with reflections of a soft herbaceous character on the aftertaste. Give it a try.

The 2017 Ashbourne Pinotage spent 10 months in 400-liter French oak and seven months in used foudres . It has a perfumed, floral bouquet of crushed violets and incense mixed with herbal aromas that come across a little too strongly. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is a nicely structured, fine-boned Pinotage with good delineation toward the finish. Very fine.
