Tasting notes
With a fragrant and precise nose, the 2017 Three Pines Syrah offers juicy and spicy notions of red and black peppercorn, hints of oak spice with dusty purple flowers and nuances of evergreen. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is focused, expressive and clean, offering delightful and food-friendly expressions of dried herbs, spices and juicy black fruit before showcasing a balanced structure with lifting tannins and buttressing acidity. The wine concludes with a long, lingering finish. The wine rested for 20 months in small French oak barrels. Just under 3,400 bottles were produced. Give it a try.

Hand-picked grapes fermented in small batches (no mention of ambient yeast on the back label) and basket-pressed. Matured for 20 months in small French oak barrels. Mid crimson with a high-toned, ripe Syrah nose. Juicy, lively fruit with some sweetness – a sweetness that may be masking the personality of the variety. But it's fun and well made. Still quite youthful with leathery tannins on the finish. (JR)
