More herbal than their Cuvée Cinema , with lovely stemmy notes and a sweet oak element too. Chalky tannins, long and mouth-watering on the finish. (RH)

The 2017 Bona Fide Pinot Noir comes from a single vineyard, the Vrede vineyard farmed by Hannes Storm. Matured for 11 months with 60% whole-bunch fruit, using 20% new oak, it has an earthy, almost Morey-like bouquet with a slight masculine personality. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, slightly chalky tannin. This is perhaps the most edgy of Peter-Allan’s Pinots this year, leading to a saline finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent, but quite cerebral.
