Tasting notes
The Zwischen den Seen (“in between the lakes“) range is matured in stainless steel and large old oak, with a focus on purity of fruit and freshness. We have small volumes of the 2013 Nummer 8 Scheurebe. The wines are numbered in ascending order of sweetness, and in 2013 this was the sweetest wine Kracher made. It has a massive 295.7g/l residual sugar, yet the wine has amazing balance thanks to the Scheurebe grape’s natural high acidity. It was a star of a recent tasting by Antonio Galloni – “an exotic, wonderfully nuanced TBA that dazzles from start to finish”. Complex, vibrant and unbelievably concentrated, sweet wines don’t come much better than this.

For sale again 10 years after the vitange, Kracher's 2013 Trockenbeerenausleses No. 8 Scheurebe Zwischen den Seen exhibits a radiant amber color and opens with an intense and aromatic bouquet of secondary and first tertiary aromas along with tart and candied fruit, dried floral, nutty, nougat and honey notes. There is still some lemon freshness here, too. Dense and round on the palate, this is a very charming, textured, finessed and beautifully balanced noble sweet wine with highly stimulating salinity on the vivacious finish. The acidity is very delicate, and the candied sugar flavors are perfectly integrated. This is a great wine that is slowly leaving its Scheurebe features behind in favor of the terroir. 6.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Lütjensee, Hamburg, in June 2023.
The 2013 Scheurebe Zwischen den Seen TBA is a wine of magnificent beauty. Deep, layered and so expressive, the 2013 possesses tremendous complexity and a real feeling of dimension that is hard to fully capture in words. Apricot jam, spice, rose petal, burnt sugar and crushed rocks all develop in an exotic, wonderfully nuanced TBA that dazzles from start to finish. Vivid and constantly changing in the glass, the Scheurebe is pure magic.
The 2013 Trockenbeerenauslese No 8 Scheurebe Zwischen den Seen offers an enormously aromatic bouquet of sugared grapefruits, kumquats and bitter chocolate but most of all ripe peach and mango aromas. Very sweet and dense in the palate, this is a fermented fruit cocktail—very elegant and juicy, with just 6.5% alcohol. This is a great sweet wine—now and in 15 to 20 years. Tasted in June 2018.
