Hirsch's 2019 Ried Heiligenstein 1ÖTW Kamptal Riesling is clear, intense and pure on the nose that reveals herbal, white fruit and crushed lemon aromas and this typical crystalline terroir sandstone character. Crystalline, fresh and vertical on the palate, with firm tannin grip, minty notes and concentrated and juicy fruit, the 2019 needs to go a long way to shine and reveal its true complexity. 13% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021.

Sandstone. Screwcap. Smoky, even a little bit toasty. Is that some (big) oak influence? Or perhaps it’s the effect of spontaneous fermentation. Not as exciting on the palate. It's got plenty of freshness but the fruit seems less vibrant and a bit dilute on the finish. (JH)
