Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
(the percentage of new French oak is now up to 80% or 90%, according to Truter) Medium ruby. Warm, very ripe aromas of coffee, toffee, leather, mocha, new oak and underbrush, with a roasted aspect. Sweetly oaky, deep flavors of redcurrant, plum and minerals, with hints of leather, iron and fresh blood. Youthful finish features fine, building tannins. (Unfortunately, a bottle I tasted subsequently in New York was too rustic, if not downright dirty, suggesting that this rather wild wine is vulnerable to less-than-perfect handling.)
