Tasting notes
Made from a blend of 53% Cabernet Franc, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot, the 2017 Warwick Estate Reserve (Trilogy) begins opaque in the glass with a deep ruby rim. Aromas of dark cherry skin, sweet tobacco and crème de cassis flutter out of the glass with a lift from sweet baking spices. Full-bodied, the wine offers a juicy and delineated mouthfeel before expressing blackberry skin, with an element of dried herbs and cinnamon-spiced plums. The wine concludes with a long, complex finish that evolves to flavors of bitter dark chocolate and black tea on the finish. Give this some additional time in the cellar before opening and drink through 2032.

About the producer

With vineyards at the foot of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, Warwick Estate is one of South Africa’s most established wine producers. The Ratcliffe family converted the farm to viticulture and started making Bordeaux-inspired blends in the 1980s, including its flagship Trilogy.
