Lots of spicy oak, darker cherry and cassis fruits, cedar, and floral notes emerge from the 2019 Château Maillet, a pure, polished, slightly modern styled Pomerol that stays straight and focused on the palate, which is the style of the vintage. Slightly reserved and closed at the moment, it nevertheless has a solid mid-palate, its oak is nicely integrated, and the balance is spot on, all pointing to it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age.

Deeply colored, concentrated, lush, rich, ripe and plummy, this hedonistic treat delivers layers of ripe, dark plum liqueur, flowers and chocolate on the nose and palate, finishing with polished, fresh, sweet, sensuous, deep red fruits and silky textures. This is going to deliver fabulous tasting experiences for at least 2 decades, if not more. Drink from 2024-2045. 94 Points

The 2019 Maillet is a powerful, brooding Pomerol. Black cherry, plum, gravel, spice, menthol, dried herbs and leather are all kicked up in a wine that shows the more exuberant side of both the vintage and appellation. I would give the 2019 a few years in bottle to see if those virile tannins soften a bit.

Subtle blackberry, dark mushroom and dark-purple fruit aromas with some stone, following through to a full body with solid structure and presence. It’s tannic and muscular and builds on the palate at the end. Yet, it’s not overpowering. Solid and traditional. Needs time to soften. Try after 2025.
