In 2019 Doisy-Daëne's L'Extravagant is perhaps not as flamboyant as it can be, but that's not an issue at all, as it is still an absolute stunner. Tangerine oil, passionfruit, ginger, spice and pineapple are beautifully laced together in the L'Extravagant. The interplay of fruit richness, texture and underlying minerality makes for a dazzling Barsac that is alluring right out of the gate, but that will also age gracefully for many years.

Pale to medium gold in color, the 2019 L'Extravagant is a powerhouse from start to finish. The nose is such a complex cocktail, it nearly blows you over with scents of pineapple upside-down cake, preserved mandarin peel, candied ginger and mango pudding plus nuances of acacia honey, beeswax, baker's yeast, wild fungi and burnt sugar. The palate is full-on pedal to the metal unctuousness with the rich sweetness beautifully offset by refreshing acidity and layer upon layer of savory, tropical fruit and earthy flavors, finishing with a long-lingering zesty lift. Strap yourselves in for this thrill ride and do not even attempt to drink anything else after this!
The 2019 L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne has a drop dead gorgeous bouquet of honey, quince, marmalade and tinned peach. Intense yet very well defined. The palate is very well balanced with that keen thread of acidity effortlessly slicing through the pure unctuous fruit, immediately eradicating a sense of heaviness. Stunning.
The 2019 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is loaded with rich, exotic fruit character, although it is not quite as texturally plush as it often is. Tangerine, ginger, passionfruit and pineapple nuances shape this pretty, if somewhat restrained, version of Doisy-Daëne's L'Extravagant.
About the producer
This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
