Open nose – fruity – slight volatility – blue fruit spectrum and touch of liquorice. Juicy, fleshy, generous mid palate concentration. Light tannin structure. Requires more acidity / freshness, structural depth and fruit definition to compete with better examples from the appellation.

The 2019 Carbonnieux has quite a showy, pastille-like bouquet with black cherries, blueberry and light violet scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite plush and showy with a touch of white pepper on the finish. This should age well in bottle although it fails to replicate its deeply impressive showing after bottling. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Tasted blind. Not much nose, but lovely purity of (Sauvignon) fruit on the palate. One of the most refreshing wines in the line-up. Racy and finely etched. Quite long. (JR)
About the producer
This estate is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, with vines planted here since at least the 13th century. Over three generations, the Perrin family has completely renovated the estate and raised quality here significantly.
