Unfussy, earthy tannins, this is old school, classic Cru Bourgeois, with a juicy frame, liquorice, loganberry and fresh mint on the finish. Hard to argue with. Harvest September 24 to October 9, 33% new oak for ageing.
Cru bourgeois supérieur. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot. Dark crimson with some evolution at the rim. Ripe blackberries on the nose. Then quite dry tannins on the end. These two elements are not yet married but this is an ambitious wine and should come right eventually. (JR)
The 2019 du Retout is inky purple in colour. The bouquet is clean and pure with blackberry tinged with graphite and black truffle, all nicely delineated and growing in intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp tannins, compact and maybe leaner than some of its peers, though with satisfying persistence on the pencil lead infused finish. Fine.
