Tasting notes
The 2007 Gratius (Sangiovese) is quite a bit darker than the Margone. Black cherries, plums, tobacco, scorched earth, licorice and tobacco burst from the glass in a wine that is quite rich and powerful. The 2007 has more fruit, freshness and brightness than the Margone, although the aromas and flavors remain very much in the dark end of the spectrum.

A pure expression of Sangiovese, the 2007 Gratius shows bold lines and thick fruit layers with lingering tones of spice and leather. There’s a chunky, raw quality to the wine that seems somewhat magnified by the tertiary aromas of licorice and Old Spice that also characterize the bouquet. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
