Inky ruby. Powerful, smoke- and spice-tinged dark berry, licorice and cola scents take on a suave floral note with air. Smooth and appealingly sweet, offering intense blackberry liqueur and violet pastille flavors and a hint of allspice. Finishes supple and long, with subtle tannins framing a repeating floral note.

From vines planted in 1904 that yielded just 20-25 hectoliters per hectare, the 2017 Saint Joseph Passion de Terrasses boasts a stunning, complex bouquet of roses and ripe stems (it was vinified using only whole clusters), black olives and black cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated yet silky, with awesome texture and length on the mouthwatering finish. Truly a tour de force, this beauty should drink well through 2035.

The 2017 Saint Joseph Passion De Terrasses is a step up in price and has a touch more ripeness as well as notes of passion fruits, spring flowers, game, and obvious minerality. With medium body, bright yet integrated acidity, and fine tannins, it's an outstanding Saint Joseph that will need a solid 4-5 years of bottle age.
