Full bottle 1,297 g. The Marengo family has owned land in the celebrated Brunate cru of La Morra since 1903. They are now blessed with two plots slap-bang in the middle of what Pedro Parra describes as the ‘Grand Cru’ section of Brunate. Some of the Nebbiolo vines in the treasured, smaller (0.14-ha/0.35-acre), lower one of silty fractured limestone at 340 m (1,115 ft) were planted in 1942. In the upper one, of just over a hectare (2.6 acres) of silty, loamy limestone at about 380 m (1,247 ft) with its deeper soils, are vines planted in 1955. Shaded ruby. Fragrant, ethereal with ripe fruit and light tannins. Super appetising with an appetisingly dry finish. Bracing! (JR)

Well knit even if not the most intense of these wines. Very satisfying indeed to drink now. Sweet palate entry and then really racy and bracing. A great, classic Brunate. (JR)

Lifted, pure nose that is very savoury. Transparent, not concentrate but very charming. Still chewier than most with good acidity. The sort of taste you associate with high altitude. Not heavy. (JR)

Moderately saturated medium red. Sexy red fruits, dried rose, brown spices and a hint of menthol. Velvety, ripe and deep, with bright acidity framing the flavors of red berries and spices. Wonderful Brunate perfume accentuated by the vibrancy of the vintage. Finishes fine-grained, subtle and very long, with noble tannins. Offers great early appeal but this has the balance for a slow and positive evolution in bottle.
