Tasting notes
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon is in great shape today. Scorched earth, tobacco, incense, worn-in leather and menthol are nicely shaped by the passage of time. The 2015 is on the riper side, but all the elements are very nicely balanced. I find the aromatics and overall complexity here quite alluring. The 2015 has enough depth to drink well for another decade, perhaps more.

97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot. Following a relatively warm winter, the 2015 growing season at Inglenook began early, staying 14 to 21 days ahead of average from budbreak to harvest. Variable weather during flowering in May and limited precipitation for the fourth consecutive year, led to relatively low yields. Merlot, the first bordeaux variety to reach maturity, was picked on 22 August, followed nine days later by the first lot of Cabernet Sauvignon. The dry, warm weather during September resulted in optimal conditions for fruit ripening. Harvest was completed by 24 September. Modest vineyard yields. Deep ruby-purple in colour, with a powerful and exotic nose of vanilla, cinnamon and ripe bramble fruits. Great density, the intense and sweet black fruits matched by chewy tannins. At this stage the structure somewhat dominates the palate, but the length of finish suggests the underlying cassis and damson will come through with bottle age as this wine knits together. (TP)
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon is a dark, exotic beauty. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, and menthol make a strong opening statement as this bold, sumptuous wine shows off its personality. Radiant, supple and super-expressive, the 2015 is just as enjoyable as it has always been. The 2015 is just starting to open up, but it remains very, very young. Time in the glass brings out an attractive floral component that adds lift.
